October

October is one of my favorite months for a couple of reasons.

First, there's the MLB playoffs. The mighty TX Rangers are in the playoffs for the first time in 11 years, and the first time since I moved to TX. They sort of tripped into the playoffs but they made it nonetheless. It's a lot of fun having a hometown team do well. Right now the Rangers are the best team in TX across all sports! Not bad!!

Second, October is Pastor Appreciation Month. Technically it's "Clergy Appreciation Month" but for the purposes of my church it's definitely time to appreciate our "Pastor". This is by far one of the most underrated stressful careers in the world. Why do I think it's underrated? Some folks have this idea that all a pastor does is preach on Sunday and then either go play golf all week or simply study the Bible every day. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is quite literally a 24/7 job. They are always on-call for virtually anything and everything that their congregation needs. While we could have a separate discussion on why it's not the pastor's role to solve everyone's problems, I'll tell you straight up that any true pastor feels genuine concern for each person he leads and the issues they bring him. That "genuine concern" translates to many gray hairs (or in the case of our pastor, NO HAIR) and countless sleepless nights.

With that in mind I'd like to do something special for my pastor during October. I just don't know what that special thing is. Can you help me? Please use the comments section to give me some ideas. Heck -- if it's a really good idea I'll even give you partial credit!

The comments section is open folks....now start slinging ideas!
